Eschewing predictable or rigid forms for playing jazz, Bede Quartet takes influence from Northumbrian and Scandinavian folk music, with strong melodies and a collectively fluid approach to improvising. These musicians are no strangers to the fusion of jazz with other styles of music and they all frequently tour and perform with artists across different genres.
Initially formed as a drum-less trio in 2021, the group has developed a uniquely cohesive voice. These four musicians have grown together first as friends, incidentally as artists, maturing into a sound always evolving with honesty and without ego.
Bede Quartet is proud to showcase their debut album, recorded over a few days in rural Northumberland.
Line-up: Michael Bede Dunlop (double bass), Finn Carter (piano), Albert Hills Wright (alto sax) and Dillon Harrison (drums).
“Jazz-folk, folk-jazz, jazz-infused folk, folk-infused jazz...labels, don’t you just love ‘em? Keep an eye out - and an ear open - for Michael Dunlop”
“Finn Carter is much in demand as a sideman for a lot of very prominent contemporary acts…has an ear for melody.”
